Live DX spots

A DX cluster is a network where operators announce ("spot") stations they hear. HAMORA reads live spots, works out the band and mode, and shows how fresh each one is. Spot data is provided by HamQTH.com.

Personal opportunity ranking

HAMORA Explore scores each spot against your own log and the current conditions, and puts the best first. The score is simply the sum of its reasons, and every reason is listed, so nothing is a black box.

New DXCC opportunities

DXCC is the list of countries and territories amateurs collect. When a station from an entity that isn't in your log is spotted, Explore marks it as New DXCC and ranks it near the top.

New band and new mode opportunities

With Lifetime, Explore also knows which entities you still need on each band and in each mode, what your awards still need, and how your own past contacts went, and adds those to every score.

Propagation-aware recommendations

The "Recommended now" card on Home picks the most useful live opportunity, taking propagation into account. It's labelled "Likely, not guaranteed", and when nothing is worth working it says so instead of inventing a suggestion. In portable mode a single line shows how many useful opportunities there are.

Explore alerts while HAMORA is open

While HAMORA is running, it can notify you when a spot is a new DXCC for you. These alerts are made on your phone from your own log, so nothing about your log is sent anywhere for them.

Personalized DX alerts

With Lifetime, the alerts also cover entities you need on a new band or in a new mode, and what your awards still need.

Explore alerts when HAMORA is closed

HAMORA Cloud would watch live spots for you and send a notification when one is a new DXCC entity, band or mode for your synced log, even when the app is closed. It's off unless you turn it on, follows your quiet hours, and is limited so you aren't flooded. It needs a HAMORA account with Cloud sync. It's part of the HAMORA Mobile 1.0 plan, and is in development.

  • Off until you turn it on
  • Quiet hours, rate limits and no duplicates
  • Tap an alert to open the spot in Explore
  • Stale spots are never sent

Needs a HAMORA account, HAMORA Cloud sync

In development. Waits for its cloud service, spot-provider agreement and closed-app tests on real phones.

Wanted callsign alerts

A short personal list of wanted callsigns, matched against live spots by the same cloud alert service. Planned to work alongside the alerts above.

Alert preferences and quiet hours

Every notification category can be turned on or off. Quiet hours follow your time zone, alerts are rate-limited, and duplicates are dropped. What you've received stays in the notification history in the app.

Opportunities while portable

One quiet line in portable mode: how many useful DX opportunities there are right now.

New to this?

DX and DX spots:
DX means a distant station. A DX spot is a short public message saying a station was heard on a frequency; a DX cluster shares them.
DXCC:
The list of about 340 countries and territories (“entities”) amateurs collect. A “new DXCC” is one you haven’t worked yet.
